Find direct food and reefer shippers with a dated USDA contract

A shipper list tells you who might ship. A USDA award names a food vendor that has to deliver a set quantity from its plant to named cities between two dates. awardlanes lists those awards as lanes for your states, each linked to the USDA page it came from.

An award is not a load: the vendor may already have a carrier, and USDA can change or cut a contract [source 1]. What it gives you is a named company, a lane and a date to call before.

What a frozen USDA lane looks like

A real Texas lane from the data as of Nov 7, 2026, word for word as our engine wrote it from USDA's files [source 3].

What the vendor passes on to its carrier

USDA's master solicitation sets the delivery rules for every vendor. These are the ones a carrier feels, quoted word for word with their clause numbers [source 1].

Not legal advice. Read the clauses in full in the MSCP-D PDF, and see pitching USDA vendors for what they mean for a broker.

How to work a USDA lane

  1. Pick up to 3 states in the box above and open the lanes.
  2. Check the award: every lane links to USDA's award notice page, and to the Bid Array and solicitation when USDA posted them [source 3].
  3. Call the vendor before the window opens. You get the vendor's name, the plant city and the contract number, as printed on the award; vendor contacts are not included today.
  4. Ask who moves its USDA deliveries into your cities today, and when its next window opens.

Questions brokers ask

How can a freight broker find direct food shippers?

Start from a contract instead of a list. USDA's award notices name the food vendor, its plant, each destination city, the quantity and the delivery window. awardlanes turns those notices into lanes for your states, each linked to the USDA page it came from, so you can call the vendor before the window opens.

Is the USDA vendor the shipper?

When the award notice says "f.o.b. destination", the vendor delivers at its own expense (FAR 52.247-34 in USDA's master solicitation), so the vendor arranges the freight. 5,674 of the 8,355 findings as of Nov 7, 2026 say so. The vendor may already have a carrier.

Which USDA lanes need a reefer?

USDA's commodity name tells you: frozen items carry "FRZ" or "FROZEN" in it, as printed on the award. We show the name as USDA wrote it and don't add a temperature the record doesn't state.

Do I get vendor contacts?

Vendor contacts are not included today. You get the vendor's name, the plant city and the contract number, as printed on the award.

Does the vendor already have a carrier?

It may. Many USDA vendors already have carriers, and an award is not a tender. What a lane gives you is timing: you can reach the vendor before its delivery window opens.
